What is vestibular rehabilitation?
Vestibular rehab focuses on re-weighting how your brain processes sensory information. Your brain uses information from your feet (your ability to feel your weight shifting), your vision (you can see yourself move forward/backward), and your vestibular system (inner ear system that helps with equilibrium and balance). All three of these systems need to work together to keep you upright and balanced. If there is an impairment with one, it can affect how all 3 work together. Likewise, if the brain is having trouble processing the information, then you may feel dizzy, unsteady, or as though your head is up in the clouds. When we increase the input through each of your sensory systems, it reinforces the need for the brain to process information more efficiently.
